Following
are excerpts from the email communication from Citizens for
NYC.
Congratulations! Your organization has been awarded a 2006
New
Yorkers
for Better Neighborhoods Award in the amount of $500. This
year was
highly competitive and selecting groups to support was extremely
difficult. Citizens for NYC received over 180 applications
for
various quality of life improvement projects throughout the
five boroughs.
Grant checks will be distributed at the New Yorkers for Better
Neighborhoods Awards Ceremony on Monday, June 19th, 2006 at
6pm at the Municipal Art Society's Urban Center 6-8pm
You are welcome to bring multiple representatives of your
organization,
however space is limited so be sure to respond early. [If
you are inclined to represent our CSA with Trina please give
her a call]
Once again, congratulations to you and your group for the
great work
you are doing to make New York City a better home for us all.
Sincerely yours,
Marybeth Berlemann
Grants Manager
Citizens for NYC
Trina, did most of the leg work and writing and with my modest
input we applied for this grant on behalf of the Hell's Kitchen
distribution group. The purpose of the grant is to purchase
totes that can be used to transport the produce for the CSA.
We explained in the grant how the totes would be a group asset
and facilitate the delivery of veggies to the distribution
location. We had been having discussion with Holy Cross Church
on W42nd St. about working with their food pantry which distributes
food to 300 people every other Saturday. The totes will help
facilitate delivery of the veggies to the pantry as well if
and when we get that relationship working and allow for easy
clean up and retrieval.
To be able to receive the funds we need an Employee Identification
Number or EIN as per the IRS. So, Upper Meadows Farm CSA has
completed the application and now has an EIN. Thess are significant
steps along the path of our evolution. I'm very excited to
see the level of participation and volunteer activity this
year! This is just another example of how as a community we
have more to offer and more together.
