Thanks
to all who attended our Fall Harvest Picnic!
Of course, I'm sure that the great food and magnificent weather
was thanks enough. Add to that great company and it made for
the best picnic we've had. Anya and I were talking about the
idea of going on a picnic. When I was a child, at times, we
would pack the picnic basket [yep, mom had a family sized
picnic basket] and go on a picnic. Not tailgating. Not eating
out. Not grabbing a bite while doing something else. A real,
spread out the blanket on the grass, sit down and eat relax
and enjoy each others company kind of picnic. Monday, Anya
and I took our little wine tote and a blanket out on our way
to pick up the potatoes from the field and had a little picnic
in the upper field on the way back. Just a blanket spread
out on the ground and the pleasure of listening to the wind
and birds in the trees. No profound conversation, no activities,
nothing electronic, just a relaxing chance to enjoy the same
space in a peaceful and sharing way.
We
agreed that this was something that should be done more. Picnicking,
that is. I have often offered for CSA members to visit the
farm. I explain regularly that I recognize your investment
in the farm in as many ways as I can that accrue to our quality
of life overall. Perhaps, if you were offered the chance to
come here and have a picnic it might be something that you
also value. Let me know.
In
the mean while, I'm sure that all who came to our Fall Harvest
Picnic this year, have gone home with a warm memory of time
well spent with others in their community.
