Ashley
Farm

I thought that you would all like to meet the some of the
folks at Ashley Farm where we distribute in Flanders NJ.
Aimee Ashley [now Myers] and I were classmates in the NJ
Ag Leadership Development Program class IV together. Aimee
is a hard worker and very open to innovation and refinements
that move her family business forward. Her brother Scott is
a member of the current NJALD program class VI.
Muriel and Hubert Ashley began farming in 1948 in Flanders
NJ. They started raising turkeys soon after and so today the
third generation of Ashleys are raising turkeys, which they
do very well indeed! In addition to the home farm of 20 acres
the Ashleys farm another 150 rented acres. Their crops include
raising all the grain for their poultry operation. Last year
they raised around 6,000 birds! Some birds are for the holiday
market but they also offer ground turkey and parts year round.
In addition to Larry [Aimee and Scott's dad], Aimee and Scott
they employ 15 seasonal workers between the market and farm.
Yep, if you read that right it means just three full time
employees keep things humming. Aimee
hard at work
Ashley Farm also produces sweet corn, pumpkins and vegetables
in addition to the grain for their birds. In 1973 they built
a retail market which Aimee now manages in addition to her
other farm chores. I encourage you to drop in if you are out
for a day trip in Morris County. Of course our members who
pick up at Ashley farm have the chance to visit the market
weekly.
I'm thrilled to partner with the Ashleys who are responsible
family farmers doing a great job producing food for their
community. We'll have to see how our relationship develops
over time and I think things will only get better especially
since we're off to such a great start!
