Animal Tracks

The chickens are here as I mentioned this past week at distribution. I'm keeping them in a surround outside of the coop until they are secure in where they roost; the hen house. Once they seem to understand where their new home is I'll let them roam or

range as the case may be. Yesterday while shaking down the feed in the trough a broadwing hawk came cruising by through the trees and we are seeing more of them as well as a pigeon hawk who has been hanging in the neighborhood.

This weather is great for the amphibians it seems and the leopard frogs are out in the middle of fields.

Leopard Frog You saw the turtles in last weeks newsletter and they seemed to be enjoying things as well. Insects, on the other hand seem to be really booming! Every kind and class that you can imagine and many that I've never seen before seem to be absolutely thriving. I have been keeping an eye on my lone hive of honey bees this summer and they seem to be ok but for some reason that I am not certain of do not seem as vigorous as I think I'd like. I will be checking in the hive in the next week or so to see how they have made out with honey this season. I'm hoping for a healthy hive and good honey run but will settle for a strong and surviving hive if that is what we have.

The cows are looking happy and sleek and have begun to be spoiled by the market leftovers that we've been giving them. Even in the meadow pasture with the grass over their backs they'll still call out like a plaintive child when they see us just to make sure we know where they are and where we can toss the goodies.
