ABOUT UPPER MEADOWS FARM

Begun in 1987, Upper Meadows Farm has been devoted to sustainable holistic agriculture. Joining the Certified Organic community in 1991, we have maintained certification by NOFA-NJ ever since. We have evolved from our beginnings on 4 1/2 acres to our current size of 153 acres, all certified organic. During the course of which time, we have raised pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, and cattle, for meat, fur, fiber, eggs, and milk. We have also expanded our vegetable production from the traditional "kitchen garden," which remains as one of our fields, to approximately 12 acres today, that serves our CSA as well as other markets. We are gradually expanding our fruit capabilities and planted 37 Apple and Pear trees in 2003.We have continued to plant some fruit trees each year since. We have been working to expand our berry bush and will be planting blueberries, which we last had available in 1994 and moving our raspberry patch. We are planning on planting new grape varieties to augment our concord vines. We have devoted an additional 1/2 acre to perennial flower production. We make hay when the sun shines and rotate our grain crops, which have been barley, oats, wheat, rye, spelt, flax, buckwheat, and corn. All our livestock are pasture based and we are always working to improve and expand our pasture which we consider the foundation of our agricultural health. Also while supplies last, we have maple syrup courtesy of our trees with a measure of hard work added for flavor. Please check the product link for more information.

DIRECTIONS TO THE FARM
(call ahead, open by appointment only)

Pollara Lane is located approximately 100 feet north of mile marker 128 on the South bound (West) side of Rte 206 in Montague, NJ.
"Countryside Deli" and "Gardens To Grow" are at the highway intersection of Pollara Lane and Rte 206. Pollara Lane is a PRIVATE road. WE do not have a typical street sign at the highway.
Once you turn off of Rte 206 you are on Pollara Lane. Pass the highway buildings and proceed 1000' up the lane. Take the fork to the right. Stop at the first building (red brick).
Our market is located on the ground level.
Please park head in. Do not block the travel lane. If no one is in sight, honk your horn a bit and give us time to return from the field.

E-mail is the surest mode of contacting us year round. Otherwise, please call the farm at (973) 293-8171 between 7 AM and 7 PM to confirm product availability and hours of operation. It is our commitment that all messages are responded to. We are a family farm and periodically must address family issues that affect our schedule.
Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

CSA Coordinator Links

The fundamental basis of CSA is community. At Upper Meadows Farm CSA (UMF CSA) we are working to further engage our community in many ways. One of these is by inviting members to participate in the Core Groups. The Core Groups participate in the decision making process of UMF CSA. Because we are a growing and diverse group located over a wide area it is expedient to have distribution locale core groups. Each group focuses on the needs and activities at their distribution location. We make every effort to engage members of those Core Groups in the regional aspect of UMF CSA. If you have any questions feel free to click the link below for either Core Group.
